Factors Affecting Health Insurance

The costs of health insurance policy premiums are affected by two major factors. The main factor is one's personal health or family health history or past. The second major factor that influences one's health insurance policy premium is age.

Personal health and family health history is a major factor when determining health insurance premiums. It is affected by high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other serious health risks. In determining health insurance policy premiums between two individuals (one 18 years old and the other 60 years old) with the same health and health history show that the 60 year old will always have higher health insurance premiums.

One's health and family history is not always controllable as they are not predictable. Some diseases are hereditary and perfect health, which matches affordable health insurance policies, may not possible. So, be in the best health, then your body or family history allows you to buy health insurance that provides good benefits and is easily affordable.

Introduction to the Google Trike

A cycle with a pedal and three wheels along with an ice-cream cart looking equipment at its back. This is what a typical Google Trike looks like – but is enabling millions of people to explore the streets at the click of their mouse from their PC.

As we all know about Google’s street viewer. It was hard for Google to explore certain streets or areas, especially in Europe. There may be many issues, but I am not going into all those in this post. In order to explore those streets, Google has invented this tricycle.

Now you can watch even the narrowest street in Google Map’s street view (unless Google hasn’t mapped it out yet). Thanks to Daniel Ratner, the Senior Mechanical Engineer of Google team who came up with this idea.

Its really astonishing to see how a 250-pound tricycle with a portable camera equipment and computer hardware can help us so much!

Understanding Spam Detection:

People do not mind it when they have spam slipping through their filters (false negatives) rather than having their desired good e-mail (“ham”) blocked (false positives). Most of the available techniques have both kinds of errors to varying degrees. Therefore, for example, some anti-spam systems may allow a lot of spam to prevent the good e-mail from being rejected.

Detecting spam based on the content of the emails like based on certain keywords such as “viagra” or through statistical means is very popular. However, this method suffers from the drawback that it does not determine whether the mail was unsolicited or bulk which are the two main features of spam. Therefore, if your friend sends you a message that contains the word “viagra” in it, the filters may block the message as spam even though it is neither sent unsolicited nor was it sent in bulk.

Most of the popular DNS Blacklists contain the IP addresses of known spammers, zombie spammers, open relays etc.

Spamtraps are often email addresses that are never valid or have been used to collect spam over a period of time. Spamtraps are often not announced and is usually found in dictionary attacks or by pulling off addresses off hidden web pages. Certain blacklists such as spamcop, use spamtraps to catch and blacklist spammers.

History Of The Earth Day

Earth Day is a name used for two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are planned to inspire awareness of and admiration for the Earth's environment. The United Nations celebrates an Earth Day each year on the March equinox, a custom which was founded by peace campaigner John McConnell in 1969. A second Earth Day, which was founded by US politician Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in the late 1960s, is eminent in many countries each year on April 22. In September 1969, at a meeting in Seattle, Washington, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots show on the environment. Senator Nelson first proposed the nationwide environmental complaint to thrust the environment onto the national agenda.” "It was a gamble," he recalls, "but it worked."

Five months before the first April 22 Earth Day, on Sunday, November 30, 1969, The New York Times passed a lengthy article by Gladwin Hill reporting on the rising tide of environmental events: "Rising concern about the environmental disaster is sweeping the nation's campuses with an concentration that may be on its way to eclipsing student discontent over the war in Vietnam...a national day of observance of environmental problems...is being planned for next spring...when a nationwide environmental 'teach-in'...coordinated from the office of Senator Gaylord Nelson is planned...." Senator Nelson also hired Denis Hayes as the coordinator.

Each year, the April 22 Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Among other things, 1970 in the United States brought with it the Kent State shootings, the advent of fiber optics, "Bridge over Troubled Water," Apollo 13, the Beatles' last album, the death of Jimi Hendrix, and the meltdown of fuel rods in the Savannah River nuclear plant near Aiken, South Carolina an incident not acknowledged for 18 years. At the time, Americans were slurping leaded gas through massive V8 sedans. Industry belched out smoke and slush with little fear of legal penalty or bad press. Air pollution was normally accepted as the smell of wealth. Environment was a word that appeared more frequently in spelling bees than on the evening news. But Earth Day 1970 turned that all around. On April 22, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment. Denis Hayes, the national coordinator, and his youthful staff organized massive coast-to-coast rallies. Thousands of colleges and universities prepared protests against the deterioration of the environment. Groups that had been fighting against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife suddenly realized they shared common values.

The Victoria Cross of British Empire

The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest military decoration awarded for valour "in the face of the enemy" to members of the armed forces of some Commonwealth countries and previous British Empire territories. It takes priority over all other orders, decorations and medals. It may be awarded to a person of any rank in any service and civilians under military command, and is obtainable to the recipient by the British monarch during an investiture held at Buckingham Palace. It is the joint highest award for courage in the United Kingdom with the George Cross, which is the corresponding honor for valour not in the face of the enemy.

The Victoria Cross was presented January 29, 1856 by Queen Victoria to reward for the acts of bravery during the Crimean War. Since then the medal 1.356 times were allotted to 1.353 various recipients. Only 13 medals, nine with the British army and four with the Australian army were allotted since the beginning of the Korean War. The traditional explanation of the source of the gunmetal of what the medals are struck is that it derives from the Russian gun captured with the head office of Sevastopol.. Recent research threw the doubt about this history, suggesting a variety of origins. Because of its rarity, the VC are strongly estimated and the medal can reach more than £400.000 with the bidding. There are a certain number of public and private collections devoted to him, in particular that of Ashcroft lord, who contains more than one tenth of all allotted VCs.

Biological War - More Dangerous Than Nuclear Weapons

After the nuclear warfare, the most powerful warfare is the biological warfare. This type of war fare is used far before the invention of nuclear bombs. Though there was not much technology to invent new type of virus in those times, they still were successful to harm the enemy by using whatever was existing. The major form of biological warfare used to be poisoning the water sources where the enemies have possibilities to use them; and then using microorganisms, toxins or animals in a weapon system and by using biologically inoculated fabrics. It was aid that the enemies who were imprisoned during a war were used to conduct experiments by the prevailing scientists at that time. Imagine throwing 1000 persons in a small dump where there will be hardly any place to stand and then throwing terrific toxins or virus on them.

In the biological warfare they use pathogens like bacterium or virus or any kind of toxins as weapons. The main thing that makes the biological warfare more powerful than nuclear war is that it won’t kill a person at once. It starts eating the inner or the outer matter slowly making the death more devastating.

We had probably heard a disease called Anthrax in recent times. Well even that falls in this category.

The Composition of American Population

The current population of America is 307,159,987. It is growing and growing at a decent pace. You can imagine when I say the birth rate is too high, and there is a birth in every 7 seconds. It would say (despite of my Irish roots) it could be because of immigrants. They come for education, jobs and in search of business opportunities. The population might eventually come close to being under control and more people may get better job opportunities and further education. For example, the students in university from USA, like myself, have better chances for job opportunities and better education.

There is a growing discussion about the immigrants or the foreign born nationals in America after the polls. The Blacks, Hispanics, Caucasians, Asians and people from middle-east, there are many races or sections of people who are in US making it a true modern nation, which give fair chance to everyone irrespective of their nativity and race.

Art Groups Hit Hard By the Economic Downturn

Arts are always secondary for the people and this is the one, which easily gets affected if there are any economic issues.

The economic downturn has affected the Arts group, which made them short in the strength of numbers - forming alliances, pooling resources, networking and accommodating one another’s diminished circumstances.

The economic issues caused artists to work together, which makes them to be supportive to one another. Artists need to put in their efforts to be creative in these tough times. Sometimes bringing together all the arts groups, does not really work out. But this kind of atmosphere causes a kind of motivation, which becomes a kind of cooperation that works for both artists’ benefit and also the public.

Almost all the Arts groups with no profits have become the victims of loss in their endowments and had to start the efforts to cope up with situation.

How effective are free machinery translations?

I believe that there are a very few people in the world who don’t like the word ‘FREE’.

However, free are not effective in all the cases. One of them is translation.

The major barrier for globalization used to be geographical areas, which we were able to conquer with invention of many tools and vessels like ships, airplanes, telephones and the mighty Internet. The next barrier is obviously the language. However, we have English serving as global language, but it cannot be as effective as maternal language, all the times. This constantly gave rise to the concept of translations.

Majority of translation used to be a paid service, in its early days. But after the invention of computers and its applications, we have many tools that could translate automatically. Language is not a straight forward entity and thus it cannot be translated as effectively by machines as it is done by humans. If you can compare a machinery translation with a manual translation, you will be able to notice that some thing is missing in the prior one. It is obviously the life in language.

Planning A Holiday through Internet

We spent a lot of time and money in planning a holiday. Sometimes, we face few problems despite of planning. We forget to pack few pairs of clothes, forget to check the arrangements beforehand and many more. Due to lack of planning and pre-preparation, we make more mistakes in making the trip memorable. It is better to plan the vaccination before three months.

Iraqi Troops Face Rise in Prescription Drug Abuse

The Iraqi troops are now facing the new problem of prescription drug abuse. The present position in Iraq is still worse; and even with the assistance of US army they still sees the position uncontrolled.

They mostly use these to control their fear, stress and tension during duty hours. They find the pills very helpful in their duty and find it hard to sign in without their pill popped.

As we know these people are not allowed to use alcohol or drugs during their duty hours and they will be fired if they were found abused. They find prescription drugs very good alternative for these. These abused prescription drugs mostly involve tranquilizers, painkillers and other drugs, according to the doctors and other health specialists.

The most common drug abused here seems to be the Artane which is used to treat Parkinson’s disease. This drug gives euphoric effects when used in high doses.

Buying a Home in 2009: Good or Bad?

People are in a big dilemma to choose between buying a home or not.

This has started with the recession that broke out, and washed away all the soaring real estate prices. Now whatever prices existing out there in the industry are tempting people to become home owners.

At the same time they have these problems like job security, consumer confidence, plummeting businesses, and many more factors which are threatening from getting into buying a home.

Prices in 20 major cities of US were estimated to have fallen by around 18 percent. What this means is that you can buy a home in these cities to a price which you could have bought in the year 2004. The prices are tempting people towards buying a house.

At the same time there are some analysts who say that prices might still fall to lower number than what it is now. And this means you are draining away your money, into something which is not worth it.

This is a big confusion out here. If any body can help please let me know.

OLPC: Reducing Size by Half

It is not a tech company or an auto company to have struggled the economy crisis. It was meant to serve a big purpose. An extremely bigger task, as big as building a Pyramid again. But it could not resist the recession taking over it.

The One Laptop Per Child project has announced that it is going to reduce its size by half if the present size.

“It pains me to post this”, their blog says, “we have striven to avoid this over the past few months, but it is unavoidable”.

The situation is similar with many of the charity projects out there. They find it hard to look out for sponsors or donors to help them achieve their targets.

Their targets may look reasonable before the crisis started. These targets were created for those times. But for now, the situation has changed. All those targets seem to be impractical and unachievable.

Beautiful Roses: Let Them Welcome Your Guests

If you have some empty place around your house (around your compound only; nor neighbor’s) and you want to make good use of it, just plan fro some good Home Garden.

Home garden is not just for people with a big lawn in front of their house. If you have space around your house, and a heart kind enough to help existence of plants in this polluted world, then you are eligible enough to be a plant owner.

Since you can’t grow an Apple Orchard within the little place you have, plan for something small but pleasant.

I recommend growing Rose plants; because they grow well even in difficult conditions and blossom almost incessantly from frost to summer. You will have hardly any mess with the plant and what is great is that Rose flowers are most good-looking, pleasant-smelling flora from the entire flower kingdom.

You can have two rose plants on the two sides of your doors (only if the location can provide sufficient air and sunlight), welcoming your guests with their gentle smile.

How Does Information Explosion Impact Us?

We have excess information, these days, available through many resources. As we are in information age, excess of information is always helpful for us to standout in the present day competition.

But we are hearing a lot about Information Explosion these days. If excess of information is so helpful and so useful why use the word Explosion? It shows that there is a negative impact of so much availability of information. And as the people of Information age it is our responsibility to know it.

Excess of information has pushed the evolution of another virtual world called the Electronic World. There are many people in the world who use their physical world just to carry out some routine jobs like eating, sleeping, etc.

There is no regulation of excess of information been produced everyday. If people are not confident of the information source, it is never used. But still adds up to the quantity of the information. It is like dumping your litter in your own house everyday.
