How Yoga Helps In Weight Loss

Yoga helps in losing some weight, but results varies depending on the types of yoga one performs. The most advantageous weight loss yoga is through power yoga, which combines cardiovascular activity with traditional yoga. In most of the experts’ opinions, it is not as favorable as cardiovascular exercises such as running, fast walking or swimming.

But, power yoga may be more difficult for the person who don't have good shape to start. Learning power yoga may also involve taking some gentle yoga classes in the beginning to be familiar with yoga poses.

Many have also accepted that hot yoga, done in a room which is at 105 degrees F (40.55 C) is great for temporary weight loss. As one sweats, one loses water weight from the body. It doesn’t burn a lot of fat, so weight loss is not permanent.

Hatha yoga, helps in some weight loss, over continuous practice of at least once in a day. It also helps muscles to become more toned and flexible. On an average, when yoga is practiced for one hour, it burns nearly 100 calories.

A study done by Alan Kristal with the National Cancer Institute revealed that those who performed yoga for one hour a week dissipated an average of 5 pounds observed over a four-year period and those who did not practice yoga gained 14 pounds at the same time period. Thus practicing yoga, once a week helps to lose small amount of weight, at the same time restricting weight gain.

Some people believe that yoga helps in losing some weight loss because it concentrates on mind and body awareness. This awareness suggests that it is not the yoga exercise poses but the philosophy of practicing yoga regularly lead to weight loss.

Even if yoga will not provide enormous weight loss benefits, it particularly provides fitness benefits for the muscles.
