Common Myths of Gambling that Lead to Problems

Myth means assumption. Generally, people have some common assumptions about gambling. Such assumptions may not be true. So, they lead to problems in their lives. There are few common assumptions such as:
  • Some people feel that if they keep on gambling, then one day they will win and will get back the money which they had lost by changing luck. If any one bets, then each time the outcome of the bet will be independent of the previous one.
  • Few people feel that if they play in more than one slot machine or in more than one poker machine at a time then they will have more chances to win. But, it may not correct all the time. You need to spend more money, you may lose more money if you loose the game. But, you will lose in over time, if you gamble more.
  • Having feeling that they have a special strategy which help them to win. They think that, they pick certain number for lottery or for other and press the stop button on a slot machine in right time, then they will win. But one cannot influence the outcome of the most of the games, as they are completely random. This means every week betting same number may not help you to win.
  • Some people feel that a particular day is their lucky day then they will win. But hoping or wishing, and others will not influence the outcome of the game.
So, it is better to avoid thinking about assumptions and every one needs to think in practical way about gambling.
