How sweat drug test works

Sweat test can be done to detect drug abuse even in children. It is used for testing various illegal drugs abuse. It is attached to the skin just like band aid. Through perspiration the patch is used to detect the presence of the drug in the body.

The sweat patch usually consists of guaze pad which is covered with a membrane. The membrane tightly sticks to the body. It is worn on the person’s upper arm. Generally before affixing the patch to the person the arm is rubbed or washed with isopropyl alcohol and then the patch is fixed to the person. After the patch is worn by the person for about seven to ten days then the patch is removed and the guaze pad inside the patch will be sent to the laboratory for the test. Again the same tests which are done for the urine are being done. First the immunoassay test will be done and again the confirmatory test will be done. If the result of the immunoassay test is positive then the gas chromatography –mass spectrometry test is done for the confirmatory. If the result of the confirmatory test is above the cutoff then the lab report gives as a positive result.

Now-a-days the detection period has become very low that is about 1-4 hrs of affixing and finally sending to the lab for the testing. Many countries are using sweat drug test now-a-days because of its fast ad accurate result. It is being done in the cases where the individuals are in the probation periods or the persons who have applied for paroles and even for the child custody cases. It is practical and detection is faster where as the urine test is impractical.
