Purchase at Secure Websites

A secure connection is used by some websites between the website and your browser. When you want to purchase product and pay the money online then it is important to know the the secure websites to safeguard the credit-card information and other personal information.

Encryption technology is used by websites to transfer information from computer to the online merchant computer. Information is scrambled by the encryption which send like credit-card number, to prevent computer hackers from getting the credit-card information. The people with legitimate access privileges can can unscramble the code. You can find out if the website is secure or not when you are dealing with a website in several ways, such as:

a. First look at the Website address on the screen, it shows that http://. If it is secure website then it shows “s” after http://, but many times you cannot see this till you open order page on the website.

b. Another way is, if website is secure then you can see the closed padlock, it will be displayed by both Explorer and Netscape on the status bar which is at very bottom of web browser. If it is not secure then it shows an opened padlock.

c. When you are on a secure key then the unbroken key is indicated.

If the merchant stores the data unscrambled, transforming your data over secure channels is of little value to you. If the merchant stores the data in encrypted form or not should be found out.

Before purchasing anything online, ensure to read the merchant's privacy and security policies to know how the website is safe for your personal information on computer.
