Consequences of Results of Drug Testing At Work Place

The result of the employee drug testing is provided after an extensive procedure by the laboratories. It is made to confirm the positive result twice, before it is reported to the concerned organization. All these tests and their results are reviewed by a Medical Review Officer (MRO). There might be some negative results which are abnormal . Such results are observed by the MRO and this may happen when the employee attempts to dilute the sample by drinking excessive water.

If the test gets positive result, it is re-confirmed and the results are informed by the certified laboratories to the organization. This is done along with the expert witnesses. If the resuhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.giflt is positive in a pre-employment drug testing, the person is not allowed to join the organization; and if its negative the person would be hired.

If the test gives positive result for a current employee, the employer has right to take punitive and rehabilitative actions. The punitive actions include formal warnings, dismissal or leave without pay. It may also have right to fire the abused person. Certain employers provide rehabilitative programs such as Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It includes actions such as individual counseling, professional assessment and treatment recommendations. However, all these actions should be taken on a confidential basis in a way that it would not effect the employee's professional and personal life.
