Children as Young as Four, Hospitalized Due to Alcoholism

The title itself sounds to be somewhat surprising and may make you look at it once again. But, it is true. Particularly in the city of Wales children as young as four years has been treated in accident and emergency department for the adverse effects of alcohol, according to a report.
Numbers from the BBC Wales show that atleast 1200 children attend the causality every year because of alcohol and drugs. And most particularly children under the age of 12 are more among the patients who are admitted due to alcohol poisoning.

The doctors from the hospitals are admitting that the problem with alcohol and drugs related incidents are increasing with younger people. Year after the year the admissions in the emergency wards are increasing particularly due to alcohol. The figures obtained from the Freedom of Information request, found that more than 800 children have attended the casualty in past three years in which alcohol is the factor.

Even though there are no particular figures about substance abuse there have been high number of cases being admitted due to accidental swallowing of pills or medication over dose.
According to the experts opinion from Wales Drug and alcohol agency, children are using the alcohol since, to the best of their knowledge they think alcohol is the only drink to get high, rather than cannabis and other illegal drugs. Secondly, it is less expensive and can be easily available.

These stats are like a caution to the parents whose kids are mostly exposed to the social networking sites where they will be exposed to many alcohol related ads and where they can find their friends boozing pics, which influence them in a stronger way to adopt those habits.
