Safety Tips for Driving in Rain

Driving in the rain is a scary thing. If it is night then it is even more difficult to drive. Whether it is night or day, it is better to drive slowly when it rains. Because when the roads are wet the traction of the tires decreases. Rain affects the drivers perception that makes it difficult to see through the rain. In this article we will discuss some safety tips for driving in rain.
  • Steering and control: Keep the steering under control by keeping both the hands firm on the steering. Keep away from distractions like cellphone. They will deviate your concentration from driving. Keep a watch on the sides and back, as it helps you to know the situation around you and or any threats such as falling of trees or power lines.
  • Headlights: Turn on headlights. It will give clear vision to you and can prevent accidents. Many states in United States should turn on lights while traveling in rain.
  • Maintain distance between vehicles: Maintaining distance between vehicle will help prevent accidents. It is better to keep distance from other vehicles, as it will let you see clearly and will give time and space to react.
  • Do not drive through the flood roads. If the flood water enters your car engine, it may damage your engine as well as your car.
  • Check the brakes after you come out from the water. If the brakes are taking time, apply slightly for a few times to get it into normal condition.
  • Take extra care when driving in nights. If you have fog lights turn on when the rain is heavy.
  • When the tires are wet, the traction will decrease, it is better to wait till the tires dry up.
  • Defog your mirrors by cleaning it properly.
  • Stay in the middle line. Water flows and stands on the sides. This will help you avoid slippery conditions.
  • Do not follow the large vehicles like truck and buses. They will spray water on the car and the visibility will decrease.
  • If you are going for a long trip and know about the rainy weather replace your old brittle wipers.
  • Don't drive beyond the visibility especially in nights. Some black colored cars are not properly visible in nights because of rain drops.
  • Don't park your vehicle under trees or power lines.
