Easy Tips to Keep Your Kitchen Counter tops Looking As Good As New

Kitchen counter tops is the area where there is some activity goes on and are hence the busiest areas in the house because that is the place where food is prepared, you work with cooking gadgets. You also do slicing, dicing, mashing and roasting of cooking vegetables. Simply saying kitchen counter tops are the heart of the kitchen because they are meant to handle anything we place upon them since they are prone to encounter swipes from a sharp knife, burns from hot pans, splashes of any liquids, and other items. So, it is necessary that we have to keep clean the counter tops to look good as new which results for prolonged time usage.

We all know that counter tops are made of different materials which means not all counter tops are created equally and maintained well. Different materials are having its own features. To maintain these counter tops, we have to know the cleaning procedures of different materials. If we apply one type of material cleaning procedure on another material then it can give different results. Dirt or stains can be removed by scrubbing with a toothbrush while mildew requires diluted bleach.

Following are the tips for cleaning kitchen counter tops made of different materials:
  • Acrylic counter tops: A soft cloth & mild detergent can be used for general cleaning while stains can be removed with steel wool or scouring powder.
  • Stainless steel counter tops: These can be cleaned with detergent and warm water. Scratches or stains can be smoothed out with steel wool.
  • Plastic laminate counter tops: It should be cleaned with a mild detergent using a quality sponge.
  • Natural stone counter tops: Stone sealers are used to protect it from stains for regular basis.  
  • Wood counter tops: It should be treated with linseed oil regularly to protect it from rotting. Make sure  to protect the wood from drying too much change in shape, by using a suitable  mineral oil.
Below are some of the tips that you can use on all counter tops:
  • You should clean the counter tops regularly to prevent build up dirt or food which would result into stains.
  • Clean the counter tops even before using them as well as after using them.
  • Immediately wipe liquid spills as soon as possible to prevent stains.
