Healthy Eating and Living Habits for Kids

It is very important for kids to have healthy living habits, as it not only helps them maintain good health, but is also helps them improve their lifestyle. In this article, we will discuss some healthy eating and living habits for kids. 

Healthy eating habits
  • Take right breakfast: Breakfast is an important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast can leave the child with low energy that affects his/her concentration at school. Taking wrong breakfast like sugary cereals, cake, junk food, etc., is a bad habit and is not good for health. Breakfast that is rich in proteins and fiber is recommended for breakfast.
  • Involving children in shopping for food and preparing of meals: By involving children in food shopping, you will get to know the kind of food the child prefers. Based on the choices you can teach your child which food is healthy and, which is not. Moreover, if your children help you while preparing food, they will be more willing to and eat the food.
  • Children should be encouraged to eat slowly: Children usually want to finish their meal quickly as they are in a hurry to either play with their friends or watch their favorite cartoon program. But this is not a good practice because quickly finishing the food may make the child obese, whereas eating slow helps in digestion.
  • Eating snacks or meals while watching TV should be discouraged: Sitting in front of the TV and eating is difficult to understand whether the child had sufficient food or not. Better to switch off the TV.
  • Planning for snacks: Give your child snacks that are healthy like fruits, nuts, protein bars, etc. Avoid giving them snacks that are unhealthy like chips, junk food, fried food, etc. Plan a schedule for snack time.
  • Give fruits and vegetables: Include fruits and vegetables as a part of healthy diet, as it will help in growth and development of your child.
Healthy living habits
  • Focusing on extra curricular activities: Extra curricular activities help the child to explore his/her skills and talents which increases their confidence level. Encourage them to be a part of a football team or learn music lessons, dance lessons, fine arts, etc.
  • Ensure that the school offers daily physical education: Programs of physical education should be offered in school as it increases fitness, physical strength
  • Technologies should be turned off: Technologies like iPad, computer games, video games, phones and other gadgets should not be used extensively by children. Ask them to sit with family members and send some time with them.
