Vitamins for Teenagers

Requirement of vitamins during teenage is high because of many hormonal changes that take place during this stage. Especially for girls, iron and vitamin B complex is required in high amounts.

Requirement of vitamins differs between boys and girls. Some vitamins are important for boys and some for girls.

Vitamins help in maintaining healthy skin, proper vision, proper functioning of nervous system, protection against diseases, supply of oxygen to brain by producing more red blood cells, etc.

During this stage teenagers are more concerned about their skin and hair. This article is about the role of vitamins that help in maintaining healthy skin and hair.

Vitamins for healthy and glowing skin – Vitamins A, C, E, B along with selenium help in making the skin look younger and also prevent from damage due to exposure to sun. These vitamins function as antioxidants and prevent cells from damage. Oxygen plays an important role in maintaining healthy cells.

Vitamin B complex helps in producing new cells and supply of oxygen to cells. Vitamin C helps in producing skin tissues called collagen, which is important to hold skin tightly to prevent aging. Foods containing antioxidants such as milk, eggs, peaches, leafy vegetables, red berries, bell peppers, broccoli, etc., help in maintaining glowing skin.

Vitamins that help hair growth – Vitamin B complex, C, A and E are effective for long and thick hair. Vitamin A and C reduces hair loss due to pollution and strengthens roots of hair, whereas vitamin B complex prevents whitening of hair at early, prevents hair loss and promotes long hair. Vitamin E helps in reducing split ends and loss of hair.

Vitamins for boys – Teenage boys are mostly worried about their muscle growth. Vitamin D is the best vitamin for body building. It helps in absorption of calcium, which is important for bones. Vitamin A reduces pimples in teens with oily skin by reducing secretions of oil glands.

Vitamin for girls - Girls needs vitamin B complex and iron in higher amounts as they undergo many hormonal changes, they lose iron during menstrual cycles. So it is important to eat foods that contain iron.

Eating foods like tomatoes, bell peppers, pink grape fruit, salmon, sardines, etc., prevent skin damage due to UV light. UV light helps in skin tissue formation and holds the skin tightly preventing wrinkle formation.

Most teens skip their breakfast and pay less attention to their diet, which affects their health. Multivitamin supplements can be taken daily along with proper and healthy diet to make sure that the body gets the required vitamins.
