Tile Roof: How to Repair It?

Some roof tiles are easy to repair and some are complex but if you follow some basic rules and understand how to repair a tile roof, you can fix that leak with in a time. However mostly, tile roof is chipped or cracked over time due to the climatic conditions you end up choosing low quality tiles while applying. Below is a step-by-step procedure to repair a cracked or chipped roof, or to replace the entire tile.

To repair or replace a tile roof, you need some materials and tools matching color roof tile (for replacement), copper nails, two flat bars, hammer, caulk gun.

Step-1: First, determine whether the tile can be fixed or the entire tile should be replaced. If you have seen a small crack on the tile then you can use the caulk gun or sealer to fill along the crack. When the sealer hardens, the crack will be completely sealed.

Step-2: If you need to replace the tile roof, you should carefully remove the damaged or broken tile from the roof with the use of a hammer or flat bars or copper nails. If tiles are not coming by the pry bar, only use hammer but make sure that you gently break the tile without disturbing other tiles. Else, the roof gets further damaged during the repair process.

Step-3: Once you remove the tile, replace the new tile for the removed tile using nails. But the problem is, if your roof is more than 50 years old, never nail the tiles. Use alternative methods to replace the tile. If your tile roof has nails, you will begin prepping the new tile for the clay tile roof repair by hanging a hanger strap on it. The strap should bend to an L shape, so that the bottom of the L is down onto the tile and the top of the L onto the hanger board on the roof just underneath the next tile above the one that you are repairing.

Step-4: For added security from leaks, mortar can be applied to all edges of the tile to form a water tight seal.

So, you can repair any tile roof by following the above steps.
