  • Weight or resistance training: Weight or resistance training concentrates on building up strength, power or local muscular endurance or resistance by exercising muscle opposing a resistance. The muscles shrinks to lift a weight like a barbell, a dumbbell or an item, which offers resistance.
  • Circuit training: Circuit training is a method of training, which is used to develop many aspects of fitness. Circuits are designed to accommodate many types of activities and equipment, which are specific to a certain activity or sport.
  • Plyometric training: Plyometric training is used for developing fast muscle fibre in order to get power especially in the legs. Muscle fibres transport energy more rapidly and powerfully when they are influenced in this way. Examples of this training are activities like hopping, depth jumping and bounding. Plyometric training must be carried out under supervision as the technique and strength essential to perform activities is paused by periods of rest to reduce chance of injury.
  • Interval training: Interval training is used to boost both aerobic and anaerobic fitness. It refers doing intense physical activity for certain period followed by periods of recovery in order to have longer periods of training time and better performance levels. For instance, in training of sprints, the exercise intensity must remain unchanged and the recovery period must be nearly three times longer than the training interval.
  • Continuous training: Continuous training refers to performing an aerobic activity at 60 to 90% VO2 max for nearly half an hour with at least three training sessions per week. Examples of this are aerobics, gym circuit classes, cycling and swimming, running and jogging.
