Foods Aiding in Teeth Staining in Kids

Teeth staining is one of the common dental problems seen in children. The staining can be extrinsic pertaining to the surface of the teeth. Whereas intrinsic staining includes stains which impart
within the structure of the tooth. Whatever, it may be, there are many causes of tooth staining. Have a look on some of them.

As you know, kids are more interested to have pastries, chocolates and candies. They contain excessive sugary compounds which are not at all good for dental health. Excessive uptake of these items may discolor the teeth. The teeth can turn yellow and gradually black. Even foods containing high fructose corn syrup used for any length of time can discolor and decay teeth.

It is known that fluoride is essential for maintaining dental health. However, too much fluoride uptake can have a bad effect on your kids' teeth. Children often are habituated to swallow most of the fluoride containing toothpaste which causes black teeth. It is highly recommended to avoid using fluoride toothpaste for children under the age of three. Other foods like soy sauce and curry spices are considered to cause strong coloring, staining the teeth effectively. So, always ask your kids to floss their mouth when they consume foods containing them.

Also remember, children taking excessive beverages including tea and coffee can enhance teeth staining. Cola drinks containing phosphoric acid and sugar erode tooth enamel, thereby discoloring the teeth. It may even promote tooth decay and other dental issues. Ensure to avoid too much usage of these foods by your kids to avoid teeth staining.
