Elder people in general are in need of a caregiver as they are so weak that they cannot do their works on their own. A senior caregiver is a person who helps senior citizens in the daily living activities of senior citizens.
Most custodial duties are to be done by senior caregivers. They help the elder persons in toileting, bathing, light housekeeping, and transportation. They help the elderly to get into the wheelchair, take them to the restroom, and place them on a toilet. They may even change the diapers and return them to the chair. They are also involved in aiding them in shower. Certain laundry-related activities are also done by the senior caregivers.
The housekeeping duties of senior caregivers include vacuuming, dishwashing, and so on. This is to ensure that a safe and hygienic environment is maintained in the house to avoid any health problems for the elderly person. They also need to arrange certain reliable transportation facilities for taking them to hospitals, entertainment functions, grocery stores, or any other place they wish to go.
Though most of the senior caregivers provide only the above services, it is also better for them to have a knowledge on medication. Most of the elderly people need to take a number of medications based on their health conditions. Senior caregivers should make a note of all of them and give them at the appropriate time. However, those who are trained in providing medical duties are perfect for providing such services for senior citizens. A senior caregiver may provide the services in the client's home or a nursing home.
